My research lies at the intersection of political and economic sociology, policy studies, cultural studies, and comparative politics.

My dissertation entitled “Outsourcing Democracy: Elite Agents and Institutions of Political Transformation” traces how particular ideas gain prominence in Indian political and policy discourse.

Between 2016-2019, I conducted participant observation in four prominent New Delhi think tanks and more than fifty in-depth interviews with elite policy makers, bureaucrats, politicians, industrialists and consultants. I examine the deep divide between politics and policy, particularly the emerging interaction between hyper-nationalist populist politics and technocratic policy making in India.

I have an M.A in Sociology from the Delhi School of Economics, a B.A in English Literature from the University of York, and several years of work experience in policy research think tanks.
