I am a comparative political scientist interested in authoritarianism, democratization, and popular contention. Geographically, my research focuses on the Middle East and North Africa where I have extensive field experience and language skills. My research is concerned with how citizens interpret and respond to the strategies authoritarian elites devise to maintain power, and how these strategies break down. My dissertation and book project examine changes in patterns of protest and dissent in contemporary Morocco.
