Storywork across the landscapes of home and school: Toward Indigenous futures in Thailand
Research Interests
I am a Hokchiu scholar who grew up across Hokchiu communities in Singapore and Lahu communities in northern Thailand. Both visions of strength and experiences of injustice experienced with these lands guides my ethical commitments to healthy and thriving futures in Indigenous Southeast Asia. My research interests sit at the intersection of land-based education, historical, cultural ethical and political dimensions of learning and human development, and Indigenous futurities. Much of my work is deeply community-driven and for the last decade I have been part of grassroots education movements across Mekong and México with educators concerned with creating more humanizing forms of teaching and learning through family-based curriculum and evaluation, and Indigenous stories and STEM education. I study how Indigenous knowledges can reshape schools in relation to macro sociopolitical structures and how to collectively design for thriving, ethical futures with families and communities in Southeast Asia and North America.
