Graduate Program in American Studies

The Department of American Studies at the University of Minnesota has a long and distinguished history in the world of American Studies. The well established interdisciplinary program offers graduate students the opportunity to pursue research interests in a vital intellectual community. The graduate program has two basic missions: 1) to advance new knowledge through research; and 2) to prepare scholars for college and university teaching and research. Although American Studies graduates are working in a number of fields, including publishing firms, museums, government agencies, businesses, and libraries, more than 75% of our recent graduates are teaching in colleges and universities.
