Undergraduate Scholarship Tentative
DEADLINE: Friday May 14, 2008
Eligibility: The applicant must be a declared American Studies major at the time of application, have completed at least two courses with the AmSt designator and be making good progress towards graduation. Recipients must be registered full time at the University of Minnesota.
Award: The Department will present two $2,500 academic year scholarships. Each recipient will be awarded $1,250 in Fall Semester 2007 and $1,250 in Spring Semester 2008, provided they are registered full-time through the University of Minnesota. One scholarship will be awarded including financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and one scholarship will be awarded solely on academic merit. If there are no eligible need-based applicants, both scholarships will be awarded solely on academic merit.
Selection Criteria: The American Studies Undergraduate Studies Committee will evaluate applications using the following priorities: 1) written statement of academic and personal goals; 2) strength of recommendation letter, 3) academic standing.
Application for these scholarships must
include the following:
- A
completed cover sheet (2nd page)
- Written statement of personal and academic goals (1-2 pages in length)
- One Letter of recommendation
Submit with the application in a sealed envelope with the recommender’s signature across the seal or sent directly to the department prior to the March 9, 2007 deadline.
- Current transcript (student copy is acceptable)
- Submission
of the 2007-2008 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if you
would like to be considered for the need based scholarship.
