Placement

Hindi and Urdu Proficiency Exams

To fulfill the second language graduation requirement for the BA, BFA, and BIS degree programs in the College of Liberal Arts, you must either:

  1. Earn a C- or better (or S) in a fourth-semester language course, or
  2. Pass the Language Proficiency Exam (LPE)

The CLA Language Testing Program administers the Hindi LPE and Urdu LPE, which is usually taken after four semesters of language studies. The LPE has four parts: reading, listening, writing and speaking. It takes about three to four hours to complete the Exam.

Both Hindi and Urdu LPEs are offered at the beginning and end of fall semester, and at the beginning and end of spring semester (no summer testing). In order to take the LPE, you must pre-register for the LPE during the designated registration period.

Hindi and Urdu Placement Tests

The Entrance Placement Test (EPT) for Hindi and Urdu are now available online. The EPT is a course placement test designed to assess your current proficiency in Hindi or Urdu. This is a placement test designed to evaluate what you already know and place you into the best course for your abilities.

EPT Results

Course placement results will be posted on the EPT Home website within five (5) to ten (10) business days of completing the test. To view your EPT results, click on the “Login” button on the EPT Home Website.

Once you receive your results, you are not automatically registered for the course. You must go through the appropriate channels to register for the course you received placement in. If you had previously registered for the course, you do not need to register for the course again - you already have a seat in the course.
