Language Program
The Dakota
language program is a 2-year, four-course
sequence totaling 20 credits. To complete the requirements for a BA in
American Indian Studies with the language focus see the major/minor
requirements.

Focus
is on the "D" dialect of the Dakota (Sioux) language. The first year covers the
basics of the Dakota language with emphasis on conversational Dakota
(reading
and written knowledge of the language being secondary). Language
topics to be covered
include culture, philosophy
and history.

Further
study of the Dakota language with emphasis on spoken Dakota.
