Dakota Language Program

The Dakota language program is a 2-year, four-course sequence totaling 20 credits. To complete the requirements for a BA in American Indian Studies with the language focus see the major/minor requirements.

First Year:

AMIN 1121 Beginning Dakota I (Fall semester)
AMIN 1122 Beginning Dakota II (Spring semester)

Focus is on the "D" dialect of the Dakota (Sioux) language. The first year covers the basics of the Dakota language with emphasis on conversational Dakota (reading and written knowledge of the language being secondary).  Language topics to be covered include culture, philosophy and history.

Second Year:
AMIN 3123 Intermediate Dakota I (Fall semester)
AMIN 3124 Intermediate Dakota II (Spring semester)

Further study of the Dakota language with emphasis on spoken Dakota.
