Study Abroad Scholarships: Application Requirements
All applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and must be a student in good standing at the University. See the information below for specific eligibility requirements for each scholarship.
The application deadline is March 6, 2019. The following materials are required:

A statement that includes the following (applications without this information will not be considered):

location, dates, and description of the study-abroad program to which you have applied

some background information on yourself, including your knowledge of German
-
how the program fits into your academic plans and long-term goals
-
a brief indication of financial need
-

A letter from a German instructor (preferably a faculty member) for JYM or Kade; for the Hirschbach, a letter from a non-German faculty member is also acceptable (NOTE: The letter must reach the Department by the application deadline, so you should request it as soon as possible)
Eligibility requirements:
Frank D. Hirschbach Scholarship for Study Abroad in a German-speaking Country
Eligible candidates:

Must have applied to an academic program in Germany or Austria (Receipt of award is contingent on proof that you have been accepted into the program)

GSD majors and minors must have their study-abroad program pre-approved by the director of undergraduate studies in the Department of German, Scandinavian & Dutch
Study Abroad in Iceland
Eligible candidates:

Must have applied to an academic program in Iceland (Receipt of award is contingent on proof that you have been accepted into the program)

GSD majors and minors must have their study-abroad program pre-approved by the director of undergraduate studies in the Department of German, Scandinavian & Dutch
Junior Year in Munich (JYM) Scholarship
Eligible candidates:

Must be a German, Scandinavian, Dutch major or a German minor and must have filed a program with the department

Must have applied to the Junior Year in Munich program (receipt of award is contingent on proof that you have been accepted into that program)
- Must have completed at least one German course in the major or minor at the University of Minnesota
Max Kade Travel Grants for Study in Germany
Eligible candidates:

Must be a German, Scandinavian, Dutch major and must have filed a program with the department

Must have applied to an academic program in Germany (receipt of award is contingent on proof that you have been accepted into the program)

Must have completed at least one German course in the major at the University of Minnesota
