International Students
As a globally ranked university, the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities is an excellent choice if you are an international student pursuing a doctorate in history. University policy requires international applicants (and domestic applicants whose native language is not English) to provide proof of English language proficiency as a condition of admission. More information on this policy can be found here. If you have taken 16-semester credits or 24 quarter credits of post-secondary coursework within the past 2 years in the United States, Canada (except Quebec), the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand or most current and former British and US territories in the Caribbean/Central and South America the requirement for taking an English Language Proficiency test can be waived.
Upon offer of admission, students must complete the enrollment form and begin filling out the financial certification document in order to receive the I-20 in order to start the visa application process.
