About Lou and Mary Ann

Of Croatian parentage, Lou spoke only Croatian and Hungarian until he was five years of age. Until his death in 2004, Lou served as President of the Croatian Cultural Society of Minnesota for ten years, bringing together Croatians throughout Minnesota for cultural and social functions.

Mary Ann, a first generation Italian American, has volunteered at the Immigration History Research Center as well as the Friends of the IHRC, helping to preserve the stories of immigrants, helping keep her Italian heritage and Lou's Croatian heritage alive, and helping others earn about their own family history.
