Graduate Minor in Psychology

Students pursuing doctoral studies at the University of Minnesota in areas outside of psychology are invited to consider a doctoral minor in psychology. Students complete the requirements for this minor by taking 12 credits of 5000- or 8000-level psychology courses.

Learning outcomes are tailored to individual doctoral students and their unique academic and professional goals. Outcomes are determined in consultation with the Department of Psychology’s Director of Graduate Studies (DGS) and may involve developing a foundational knowledge of multiple sub-disciplines within psychology and their interdisciplinary application to a specific research topic in another field, developing disciplinary research methods and quantitative skills, and/or gaining specialized knowledge within one of the Department’s seven areas of specialization.

The director of graduate studies must approve each student's graduate degree plan at the time of submission to certify that the psychology graduate minor requirements have been fulfilled. Learn how to add a graduate minor.
