Support the School of Journalism & Mass Communication
Help Make Us Great
Media environments are changing at unprecedented speeds, growing increasingly diverse and global in nature. The highly interactive and intellectually challenging work of our students continues to expand the knowledge about mass communication and its role in society. The School of Journalism & Mass Communication (SJMC) prepares students for careers in a wide variety of specializations in journalism and strategic communication. SJMC students learn how to think critically and creatively so they can be thoughtful, productive citizens and leaders in strategic and mass communication fields.
You can make a contribution to our work and help us develop the next generation of leading scholars, educators, and professionals.
Your tax-deductible gift provides our students with encouragement and financial support. It gives our faculty the resources to improve the practices of journalism through teaching, outreach, and professional preparation rooted in the arts and social sciences.
Choose a Fund
To remain competitive, we need your support for special programming and funds that support graduate students and undergraduates. We have four funds that may interest you:
- Hazel Dicken-Garcia Graduate Fellowship: supports graduate students following in the footsteps of Professor Emerita Hazel Dicken-Garcia, a respected media historian who served on the faculty from 1979 to 2008.
- Journalism Library: our Eric Sevareid Library is supported 100 percent by private donations. Your gift will be used to purchase books and journal subscriptions, maintain technology, and cover operating expenses.
- Mitchell V. Charnley Alumni Professorship in Journalism: We are pleased to honor the distinguished career and lasting legacy of professor Mitchell V. Charnley with this endowed professorship.
- Journalism/Mass Communication Fund: By providing valuable discretionary support to the SJMC, you allow us to make strategic investments in unexpected opportunities. In recent years, gifts to this fund have provided scholarships to some of our most outstanding students.
The School of Journalism & Mass Communication is critical to the University, our local community, and the world. Your gift can help support the next generation of leaders and thinkers.
