As a journalism major in SJMC, you will not only prepare yourself for a career in journalism or strategic communication, you will get a first-rate education, study with award-winning faculty, become involved in the Twin Cities media community, and gain real-life experience from industry professionals.

Our curriculum is focused on new media and the changing media landscape, as well on the fundamentals of storytelling and messaging, to give you a head start in becoming a forward-thinking media professional. Make the step toward a career in advertising, public relations, reporting, writing, blogging, photography, publicity, or corporate/nonprofit communications through our program.

Applying to the Major

Undergraduate applications for the journalism major are due by January 30, 2015. SJMC scholarship applications are also due that day.

SJMC’s innovative BA/MA combined degree allows students to obtain an undergraduate degree in journalism and a graduate degree in health communication in five years.
