Business Reporter

Business reporters cover industries, financial trends, economic policy, and specific companies. They follow government actions that affect the economy and businesses in their media organization's region. They work with editors, graphic artists, and web designers to find interesting ways to tell business stories, which are not always the most visual types of stories to tell. If they work for a media organization with a general audience, they strive to make complicated economic and financial information accessible to a non-specialist audience. If they work for a specialty publication, they immerse themselves in the details and specifics of that industry or market.

Jim Hammerand covers banking/finance, courts, and professional services as at staff reporter at the Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal. Prior to the Business Journal, he wrote and produced content for several Minnesota newspapers, including the Northfield News, Faribault Daily News, and ABC News. The Associated Press recognized Jim as New Journalist of the Year for Minnesota daily newspapers in 2008. He graduated from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities.
