The Spanish & Portuguese language program strives to provide students with opportunities for growth, both as individuals and as active contributors to their various communities, through the study of languages and cultures. In our classes, students engage actively with the content through regular interaction in Spanish and Portuguese, cultural analysis, and self-reflection. We aim to advance students’ language proficiency and critical thinking skills, as well as to encourage greater appreciation for other cultures and awareness of the interconnectedness of all communities. In this way, we prepare students to use their translingual and transcultural competence in their social, academic, and professional communities, on both local and global scales. Our goal is for students to become global citizens and life-long learners of languages and cultures.
