In addition to recruitment scholarship opportunities for incoming freshmen dance major students in the College of Liberal Arts Undergraduate Office, merit- and need-based scholarship opportunities are available to returning dance major students on an annual basis pending available funds. Current students are given the opportunity to apply for available scholarships in winter/spring for the following academic year. Scholarships are awarded to dance majors who demonstrate achievement in one or more of the following criteria areas:
- performance and technical proficiency
- scholastic and academic excellence
- creativity and choreography
- collaboration and interdisciplinary efforts
Scholarship information and application instructions are emailed to dance major students and posted in the Barbara Barker Center for Dance approximately one month prior to the deadline.
The Dance Program offers a limited number of competitive scholarships to incoming Dance Major students ranging from $2,500–$10,000 per year. Dance scholarships for incoming students are determined by the audition and the College of Liberal Arts Scholarship application process. Most four-year scholarships in Dance consider the intersection of talent and financial need.
Every spring, the program invites applications for annual departmental scholarships based on students’ performance, creative, academic and leadership work in the program. These scholarships range from $250–$2,000.
Students who wish to be considered for dance scholarships through the audition process are encouraged to fill out the 2016–2017 Application for College of Liberal Arts Freshman Scholarships and also the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
As a department of the College of Liberal Arts (CLA), students who major in dance are eligible for scholarships available to all CLA students. See CLA's Financial Aid & Scholarships page for more information.
