Julie Golias is an Executive Office and Administrative Specialist in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Minnesota. In this role she is responsible for oversight of the thirty some adjunct instructors who teach for the SJMC, from setting up their initial appointment with the University to being a resource for their questions or to assist with their various needs throughout the year. In addition, she schedules all of the school’s classes – a juggling act that must take into account instructor schedules, available rooms, and student curriculum needs – in short, attempting to make everyone happy. There are sometimes she is more successful at that than others.
Additionally, Julie is the departmental liaison with Facilities Management to deal with building concerns, the keeper and controller of the building’s many keys, and can often be found performing "other duties as assigned" as the need arises.
Julie began working at the University of Minnesota in 1989 for the Department of Speech-Language Hearing Sciences. Sixteen years later she moved to the Institute of Linguistics, English as a Second Language and Slavic Languages and Literatures. She began her current position in the Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication in 2009.
Reading a good book, yard work and gardening, and spending time with family keep Julie busy when she’s not at work. Being a grandma is a particular highlight.
