My research is on the Christchurch Central City rebuild in Christchurch, New Zealand. Specifically, I am interested in how the local Maori tribe--Ngai Tahu-- is participating in the rebuild and how that participation advances Maori social, cultural, political, and economic aspirations. My primary interests include how global processes such as colonialism, modernity, and neoliberalism get taken up and transformed in local contexts. Specifically I am interested in the application of neoliberal market principles to disaster reconstruction.
