Faculty Position: Open Search for a Tenured or Tenure-Track Professor in American Indian Studies

 

The Department of American Indian Studies, College of Liberal Arts, invites applications for a full-time professor (open rank, tenured or tenure-track) position beginning fall semester 2020.

Appointment will be 100% time over the nine-month academic year (late August to late May) at a rank depending on qualifications and experience, and consistent with collegiate and University policy. Salary is competitive.

This search is open as to field. Among the areas we are interested in are Politics/Governance/Law, Native Arts, Environmental Studies, or Literature and Film. Expertise in Oceti Sakowin studies and/or Dakota language is desirable.

Appropriate terminal degree is required, as is an excellent record of research and/or creative production, teaching, advising, and service. If applying at the Associate Professor or Full Professor level, the ideal candidates will be those with a distinguished record of teaching, advising, and service, preferably including administrative experience at a research institution.

The Department of American Indian Studies at the University of Minnesota is recognized as one of the leading programs in the field of Indigenous studies. Founded in 1969, ours was the first department of American Indian Studies ever created in the United States. The department embraces global directions in Indigenous studies, even while remaining committed to the Dakota and Ojibwe communities of Mni Sota Makoce (Minnesota) and the region. Duties/Responsibilities

Faculty in the Department of American Indian Studies in the College of Liberal Arts are expected to maintain an active research agenda that includes publication, teach courses in area(s) of specialty as well as core AIS curriculum, advise students, and contribute service to the department, college, university, profession, and broader communities as appropriate.
