"It's an honor to receive the 2021 CLA Emerging Alumni Award and to be recognized by the school that shaped my understanding of social justice and social movements. As an American Studies student, I learned to consider how the past has shaped the present, how our identities impact our experiences, and how our stories fit into a larger narrative. The questions I learned to ask and the insights I gained at the University of Minnesota have been foundational to the work I've done since being sexually assaulted. My advice to current and future American Studies students is to own the power of your story in your learning, and if you find yourself angry and disturbed by the world, focus your attention on what you can control. All of us have a role to play and wisdom to share in creating a better future." — Sarah Super
