PhD candidate Aleisha Barton is the recipient of a 2021-22 Luce/ACLS Dissertation Fellowship in American Art, which is supported by a grant from the Henry Luce Foundation. Barton was selected for her promising research in object- and image-based US art history. Barton’s dissertation titled “Vibrating Boundaries: Psychedelic Aesthetics in the Post-War Age, 1966-1970” considers the ephemera of mid-century psychedelia alongside the built environment of the city and its history to identify the distinct and insular qualities of the Bay Area.
