Regis West Gallery spans two floors for the presentation of student exhibitions and community partnerships.

To access the Regis West Gallery, please enter through the Regis Center for Art (East) at 405 21st Avenue South. Take the elevator or stairs up to the second floor and cross over the skyway. Once you depart the skyway, you will on the Regis West Gallery 2nd Floor.

Public Hours
Tuesday - Saturday, 11 am – 5 pm

The Regis Center for Art is locked to the public on Saturdays, with U-card access only. Visitors can call 612-624-7530 to gain entrance into the galleries and should plan to enter the building's main entrance located on 21st Avenue South directly across from the parking garage.

Accessibility 
Regis Center for Art is accessible to visitors who use mobility devices or prefer to avoid stairs. Service animals are welcome in the gallery.

A fully accessible, gender neutral restroom is available on the 2nd floor of the Regis Center for Art (West). To access this restroom, take the elevator to the 2nd floor. As you exit the elevator the restroom will be on the right hand side. Fully accessible gendered restrooms are located on the first floor of Regis West near the front entrance of the building.

The Department of Art annually hosts the Minnesota Scholastic Art Awards (MSAA) exhibition, in partnership with the Art Educators of Minnesota (AEM) and the Weisman Art Museum (WAM). The presentation of the MSAA exhibition at the Regis West Gallery, and awards ceremony at WAM, demonstrates the high level of achievement by art students in Minnesota, and the exceptional academic resources at the University of Minnesota for the study, practice, presentation, and interpretation of the visual arts. This collaboration with the AEM is emblematic of the University’s commitment to furthering the educational and artistic opportunities for young people in Minnesota. The exhibition features hundreds of artworks by high school students spanning the Regis West Gallery's two floors.

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are the longest-running, most prestigious competition, and largest source of scholarships for creative teenagers in the United States. The Awards program was created in 1923 by Maurice R. "Robbie" Robinson, founder of Scholastic Corporation, and has been administered by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers since 1994. It has an impressive legacy and a noteworthy roster of past winners including Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, and Joyce Carol Oates, and many others. It offers recognition in 27 diverse categories including animation, architecture, dramatic script, fashion, painting, photography, poetry, sculpture, and video games. The Awards are open to all students in grades 7 through 12 from public, private, and home schools throughout the U.S. (and its territories), as well as American-run schools abroad and community programs serving eligible student populations.

The Alliance for Young Artists and Writers gives out over a quarter of a million dollars in scholarships to top award-winning creative teens to help fund their continued education. The Scholastic Art Awards are also recognized by the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design, a consortium of leading art and design colleges in the United States, as an effective way for artistic students to develop successful portfolios for college admission.
