UMRA Recognizes Professors Joyce Lyon & Wayne Potratz

University of Minnesota Retirees Association Awards Professional Development Grants

The University of Minnesota Retirees Association (UMRA) has announced the 2020–21 Professional Development Grant for Retirees (PDGR) which recognizes the outstanding pursuits of retired UMN faculty. The Department of Art is pleased to congratulate two artists and retired faculty members on their grant awards:

  • Joyce Lyon, Associate Professor Emerita
  • Wayne E. Potratz, Professor Emeritus and Scholar Emeritus

This is Joyce Lyon's first PDGR grant and will support her project, Some Pages for A Book of Hours—a suite of 18 digital broadsides—as a traditionally formatted book.

Artist and repeat PDGR grant recipient Wayne E. Potratz, will use his 2020–21 grant to support attendance and participation in two iron art conferences, and to hire an undergraduate research assistant to help with preparations for an exhibition of cast metal sculpture.

Both artsists are highlighted in the UMRA April 2020 Newsletter.

The PDGR program is a joint effort of UMRA and the Office of the Vice President for Research. Financial support is provided by a combination of funds from the provost and UMRA, itself, though an endowment fund we have established for this purpose at the U of M Foundation.
