The Department of Art at the University of Minnesota presents FROM NOW ON, an exhibition of eight artists about to complete their Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. The exhibition runs April 20 - May 17, 2021, in the Quarter Gallery, and includes works by Matt Fistler, Ricky Ford, Liz Hilliard, Madelyn Kapheim, Holly Kilander, Micky Kurtzman, Linda Morvant, and Zoe Rogers.

With a nod to the uncanny valley, Fistler’s videos and animations explore perception and consciousness through universal symbolism. Deeply influenced by storytelling, Ford creates images and objects that prod the complexities behind the metaphysical. Hilliard’s paintings and objects echo the material manifestation of collective political ideologies. Using sustainable materials and processes, Kapheim’s sculptural installations critique how animacy affects our perception of the natural world. Grounded by an interest in liminality, Kilander creates a lexicon of shapes and colors that oscillate between painting and soft sculpture. Through imagined scenarios of beauty, indulgence, and desire, Kurtzman’s paintings act as a portal for escapism. In an effort to disentangle the social divisiveness that surrounds us, Morvant creates mixed media works that celebrate our universal necessities and aspirations. Envisioning poetry as sculpture, Rogers mediates on the construction self and the dualisms that attempt to shape it.
