Congratulations to Emeritus Professor Gary Cohen

Congratulations to former CAS Director and U of MN Emeritus Professor of History, Gary Cohen, who was just named the recipient of the František Palacký Honorary Medal for Merit in Historical Studies from the Czech Academy of Sciences. František Palacký (1798–1876) was a great Czech historian and leading politician of his period. His thoughts were influenced by works of Schiller, Herder and Schelling, and matured under influence of Kant.

Cohen traveled to Prague this month to receive the award. The honor was established in 1965 by the then Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences for accomplishments in historical research, whether by historians, philosophers, legal scholars, or sociologists.
