Center for Austrian Studies - Job Posting: Undergraduate Student Staff Member - Communications and Editorial Assistant

Summary:
The Center for Austrian Studies is seeking a UMN undergraduate student to serve as Communications and Editorial Assistant for the 2025-2026 academic year, with the possibility based on satisfactory job performance to continue on in previous years.
The Communications and Editorial Assistant will work collaboratively with the Associate Director to promote CAS events, thoughtfully and critically share content pertaining to the regions, languages, and cultures with ties to the former Habsburg Empire in Central, Southern, and eastern Europe, and serve as assistant copy editor to various Center publications.
Examples of tasks include:
- Collaborate on the curation of social media posts on current and emerging platforms
- Work with CAS Associate Director to manage web communications
- Copyedit Central Europe Yearbook submissions, the Austrian Studies Newsmagazine, and CAS Annual Report
- Creation of promotional materials for events organized by the Center (e.g., event posters)
- Events support
Main Responsibilities:
- Draft and monitor CAS communications on social media platforms and email
- Responding to inquiries made to the Center on social media and other platforms, and forwarding Center communications to relevant parties
- Using design and visual technologies (e.g. Canva) to create appropriate copy and materials that align with the Center’s mission
- Collaborate with other Center staff on related, scholarly and public-facing initiatives such as conferences, publications, and events
Required Qualifications:
- Degree-seeking undergraduate student enrolled at the University of Minnesota
- Evidence of communications experience (including effective written and verbal communication skills)
- Extreme attention to detail
- Experience working in collaborative work environments with university and community members
- Capacity to lead and take initiative on assigned tasks
- Demonstrated integrity and ability to employ culturally appropriate methods of describing, depicting, and discussing historical and contemporary issues pertaining to Central and Eastern Europe
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of German and/or other Central and Eastern European languages
Compensation:
$15/hour. University of Minnesota undergraduate students will be hired through the University in a Student Admin/Support Services position.
