Tara Zahra: "Against the World: The Collapse of Empire and the Deglobalization of Interwar Austria"

The 36th Annual Kann Memorial Lecture

On September 21st, Professor Tara Zahra delivered the 36th annual Kann Memorial Lecture. Her talk, "Against the World: The Collapse of Empire and the Deglobalization of Interwar Austria," was  delivered virtually to an audience of over 200 people from across the globe. The entire lecture is now available on the Center for Austrian Studies YouTube Channel. This talk examined the relationship between imperial collapse and anti-globalism in interwar Austria, focusing on popular movements that arose on the right and left to achieve greater individual and national self-sufficiency, as well as new forms of internationalism that aimed to re-imagine and revive transnational relationships.
