Career Services Departmental Initiative

CLA Departments: How can Career Services help your students?

Career Counselors are assigned to work with small groups of CLA departments and majors. These staff members can help your students explore their career options, gain experience, and excel in their chosen career fields. We want to partner with you to make Dean Coleman’s vision of CLA alumni being the most desirable graduates available a reality.

Your department’s career counselor can help your students by:

  • Meeting with them to provide career guidance tailored to their needs
  • Connecting students to employers who are recruiting CLA students for internships or full-time jobs
  • Providing class presentations and workshops on career development topics
  • Developing events that connect students to industry, employers, and alumni
  • Supporting work that your department may already be doing connected to student career outcomes

The career counselors will also maintain regular contact with each department to brainstorm ideas for student support, set achievable goals, implement new student outreach, and review progress. Each career counselor will be supporting a small group of related departments, so they will need to budget their time to ensure that they are supporting all their departments -- but the hope is that this new arrangement will provide targeted career support for all CLA students.

Questions? Please contact your designated career counselor. The career counselors’ departmental assignments are listed on our staff bio page.
