The Center for Writing Update

Nicholson Hall

The Center for Writing is currently undergoing a strategic transition. We want to clarify that the Center is not closing; rather, we are evolving into the Writing Center to reflect our core commitment to supporting student writers across the university.

As we navigate budget realities, the Writing Center will continue to be supported by CLA and integrated directly within the Department of Writing Studies. Our goal is to reach more students through continuing 1-1 consultations for undergraduate and graduate students while also developing new partnerships, modalities, and programs to support engagement. The Writing Center will continue to employ and support a range of consultants (undergraduate, graduate, and professional).

As we transition to the Writing Center, our commitment to providing high-quality support remains our top priority. We are introducing new initiatives to better serve students, including piloting an asynchronous consultation model, strengthening partnerships with academic programs to better support our users, and continuing workshops and programs like the recent Write-Ins. Most importantly, we want to reassure everyone that one-on-one consultations will be available Summer 2026 and we will be open in the fall to continue our direct student support.
