CGES Opens Call for DAAD 2026-27 Projects
The Center for German and European Studies is pleased to launch the application for the next cycle of funding from the German Academic Exchange Service or DAAD.
Every two years, the DAAD funds projects generated by UMN faculty and faculty from neighboring colleges. The next funding cycle will be the calendar years 2026 and 2027. Eligible projects must have some 'German content', they can involve the field of European Studies (broadly understood) and priority is given to collaborative projects that involve German partners (universities, colleges, actors from the civil society and so on). CGES will happily help faculty think through potential collaborators and general project ideas. If there are questions about the submission process and requirements outlined below, please contact us at [email protected].
Previously funded formats include:
Transatlantic graduate seminars on topics in German and European studies taught simultaneously at the UMN and German Universities (can include site visits)
Short term study-abroad add-ons to research seminars/and/or undergraduate seminars
Exchanges between UMN faculty and German or European Faculty
Undergraduate internship opportunities
Transatlantic Graduate Summer Schools
Conferences and symposia
Screenings and artistic events
Summer study abroad courses
Research projects of all kinds
The 2024-25 DAAD proposals were required to meet these objectives and produce specific results. CGES anticipates similar objectives and results requirements for the next cycle of funding.
The timeline for the 2026-27 DAAD Grant is as follows:
February 1st to March 30th: Initial gathering of ideas and interested faculty. Faculty are invited to register interest here.
April 1st to May 18th: CGES works with individual faculty to refine ideas and work through pre-submission logistics including a project budget.
May 18th to June 16th: Final drafts of proposals and budgets completed.
