Applications are now open for HIST 1000/3000, From: Neanderthals to Nazis: The Rise of Modern Civilization in Germany with Professor JB Shank.

This three-week Global Seminar (May 26 - June 15) will offer students an experiential encounter with the past as it exists in the present and an opportunity to think in a broad archaeological and genealogical way about how the societies and activities of our ancient ancestors contributed for good and for ill to our modern civilization. Beginning in the Pleistocene era and ending in the 21st century, students will study great moments of historical transformation as they occurred within modern day Germany. To trace this arc, students will visit key historical sites in Aachen, Trier, Dresden, Weimar, Nüremberg, and beyond.

Eligibility: Open to all undergraduate students from any major with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Program fee: This seminar is sponsored by CGES. Accepted students will be responsible for flights, LAC fees, some meals and insurance (view the program fee breakdown).

Application deadline: Apply via the Learning Abroad Center website no later than February 23, 2025.
Note, in addition to the LAC application, applicants are required to send an unofficial copy of their transcript and a recommendation letter from a faculty member to [email protected] under the subject line “last name_HIST3000 application materials" in order for their application materials to be considered complete.
