Though pervasive, there is little understanding and discussion on the topic of sexual violence as an aspect of genocide and mass violence. From the Holocaust to the current Yazidi Genocide crisis, sexual violence towards women and the LGBTQ2 community is ever present. In this workshop, presented by the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies and the Human Rights Program, experts will introduce episodes of sexual violence and provide access to resources and approaches for discussing in the classroom.

Workshop presentations include:

Gabrielle Ferrales, Assistant Professor, Sociology, University of Minnesota
Gender-based violence against men and boys in Darfur

George Dalbo, PhD student, Social Studies Instruction, University of Minnesota
Teaching about rape and sexual violence in secondary social studies

Brieanna Watters, PhD student, Sociology, University of Minnesota
