Workshop Presentation: "Indigenous Genocide and Reparative Justice in Minnesota and Manitoba: The Role of Education"

by Professor Alejandro Baer, and UMN graduate students George Dalbo and Jillian LaBranche
Event Date & Time

We will present preliminary findings of a collaborative Human Rights Lab project which examines whether and how public education can function as reparative justice in two contexts with a history of foundational violence perpetrated against its Indigenous population. How are interventions in the field of education understood in the framework of broader reparative or restorative justice efforts? How do educational bodies and individual actors understand and enact reforms related to Indigenous history and present realities? What lessons can be drawn from two contexts in which the State is differently invested in advancing reparation and redress for past wrongs?
