The Department of Chicano and Latino Studies at the University of Minnesota invites applications for a full-time lecturer or teaching specialist position to begin in the 2020-2021 academic year. Applicants must have advanced degrees or equivalent in Chicano/Latino Studies or a related field such as but not limited to American Studies, Anthropology, English, Ethnic Studies, History, Sociology, or Spanish by date of appointment.  For full consideration, all application materials must be received by February 1, 2020.

Teaching specialists and lecturers will be expected to teach undergraduate students in assigned course(s), hold office hours to assist and advise students, and participate in relevant departmental meetings and events. 

Applicants who have not completed the Ph.D. will be appointed at the Teaching Specialist level; those with a Ph.D. will be appointed at the Lecturer level. This position is annually renewable. 

 

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications: An advanced degree in Chicano and Latino Studies or related field, with at least two years of teaching experience. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred qualifications: Ph.D. candidate or Ph.D. in Chicano and Latino Studies or related field, and five years of college-level teaching experience.  Preference will be given to applicants capable of delivering high-quality instruction to a diverse student body. Concentration in Latinx Studies, particularly US Central Americans and Carribean Americans; Experience teaching Latinx literatures; willingness to teach from departmental approved curricula and support departmental learning outcomes, as well as someone who is willing to learn or is familiar with Canvas, the digital learning platform.
