Student Op-Eds Picked up by Local Publications
Students in Jessica Lopez Lyman's spring 2021 Latina/o/x Social Movements class wrote op-eds based on themes from the class. The op-eds were based on topics they are passionate about; topics ranging from COVID-19's impact on the Latinx community to police violence to environmental justice movements. Several of the op-eds have been picked up by local publications. Read them below.

Dania Barrera Carrasco is going into her third year at the University; she is studying sociology of law, criminology and deviance, and Chicano/Latino studies. Her op-ed, published by MinnPost, discusses the difficulties for Latinx people to get the Covid-19 vaccination in Minnesota and some of the causes.

Sage Grover, a rising senior at the University of Minnesota, is studying Spanish, global studies, and teaching English as a second language. Her op-ed, published by the MinnPost, explores what white people can do at their home, in their community, and more to help support the Black Lives Matter movement.

Joelle Stubbs is a University of Minnesota student studying Global Studies and Communications. Her op-ed, published by the Minnesota Women's Press, explores the cost of period products and the troubles it can bring for people.
