Capstone Year

Entering Your Capstone Year

Your final year in the Chinese Flagship program is the Capstone Year. To enter your Capstone Year, you must achieve the Advanced level of Mandarin Chinese proficiency as tested through the American Councils Chinese test. You will prepare a speaking and writing sample as part of your application.

Applying to a Flagship University

We will work with you to prepare your application before you send it to the National Committee of Chinese Flagship Directors for review. When your application is approved, you must enroll directly to one of the Chinese Flagship universities—Nanjing University or National Taiwan University. At your Chinese Flagship university, you will live with Chinese roommates and study with other Chinese students in your major. During your Capstone Year, you will also complete an internship in your professional field. Nanjing University offers both fall and spring start dates. Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) students attend Nanjing University.

Capstone Outcomes

Throughout the Capstone Year, you elevate your Mandarin Chinese proficiency level to Superior, develop a deep understanding of Chinese culture, and are able to practice your field of study in Chinese speaking communities.
