On Purpose: Portrait of the Liberal Arts

To commemorate our 150th anniversary, CLA commissioned Xavier Tavera to create an exhibition of 60 photographs. Departments and programs partnered with Tavera to envision their images and to write the narratives that accompany each photograph. Together they form a collective portrait of the liberal arts.

Reimagining Pillsbury Hall

In 1900, John Sargent Pillsbury said, “There is no spot on earth I more prefer to be remembered than on this campus.” Since then, Pillsbury Hall has housed animal biology, botany, geology, mineralogy, paleontology, and now is officially the home to the Department of English. The current renovation will transform Pillsbury into a 21st century hub for scholarship and engagement.
