College in the Schools Languages

The Greek and Latin programs in the Classical and Near Eastern Religions and Cultures are a part of the College in the Schools (CIS) program, in which the University of Minnesota partners with high schools around Minnesota and Wisconsin, giving high school students the opportunity to take U of M courses while earning college credit.

As a part of these programs, students also have the opportunity to participate in field days at the University of Minnesota. In the past, students in the program have taken trips to the Weisman Art Museum, sat in on University classes, and browsed manuscripts in Andersen Library.

Greek Programs

High school students have the opportunity to take courses in beginning classical Greek, where they can explore the vocabulary and grammatical structure of the language, reading from ancient texts from the 5th and 4th centuries BCE.

Latin Programs

As a part of the CIS program, high school students may take courses in intermediate Latin poetry and prose. These courses introduce students to unadapted ancient texts, including letters, poems, and speeches. Grammatical structure, vocabulary, and Roman culture are also discussed.
