The latest U.S. News & World Report rankings of undergraduate programs were released last week, and the University of Minnesota’s Economics Department was ranked 9th nationally among public universities and 30th across all universities and liberal arts colleges.
The University of Minnesota’s performance was highlighted in a news release, showcasing various undergraduate programs that were "singled out for excellence within their fields." These include Business (No. 18), Nursing (No. 19), Economics (No. 30), Psychology (No. 29), and Computer Science (No. 34).
Department Chair Tom Holmes commented, “We are pleased with the recognition and excited about the initiatives we are taking to position us for even greater success. This fall, our new business economics curriculum, in partnership with the Carlson School of Business, just went live. Additionally, we are rolling out innovative new courses. We are proud of our undergraduate program!”
Ayca Ozdogan, Director of Undergraduate Studies, said "We are very pleased with the news and proud of the recognition of the undergraduate program! The success of our program has been enhanced by our up-to-date curriculum and co-curricular initiatives we have been undertaking for several years now, such as the Heller Hurwicz Economics Institute Undergraduate Research Assistant Program, Women In Economics Program, Career Exploration Trips, and Economics Undergraduate Student Board. We offer diverse and inclusive engagement and fellowship opportunities for our undergraduate students in our undergraduate program. And, our goal with the new initiatives e.g. Business Economics Emphasis BA major, new courses, new career exploration choices, and internship opportunities, is to further improve upon career readiness, diversity, and happiness of our students."
