Join the Department of English as the Esther Freier Lectures in Literature Series presents novelist R. F. Kuang. This in-person event is free and open to the public with prior registration. There will be no recording or streaming available.
Bestselling author of the Poppy War trilogy, Kuang won the 2022 Nebula Award for Best Novel for Babel: Or the Necessity of Violence: An Arcane History of the Oxford Translators' Revolution. Her most recent novel, Yellowface (William Morrow, 2023), grapples with questions of diversity, racism, and cultural appropriation. A new novel, Katabasis, is due in August. A Marshall Scholar, Kuang has an MPhil in Chinese Studies from Cambridge and an MSc in Contemporary Chinese Studies from Oxford; she is now pursuing a PhD in East Asian Languages and Literatures at Yale.
