The Department of English at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, invites applications for an assistant professorship: tenure-track, 2/2 course load, begins fall semester 2019.

Required qualifications: (1) PhD or equivalent degree in English or related field, with degree in hand by August 26, 2019; (2) evidence of primary expertise and high-quality work in pre-1900 American literature (First Contact to 1900); (3) evidence of additional expertise in theoretical and/or analytical approaches to one or more of the following: (a) race and ethnicity studies, including African American and/or Native American literature/Indigenous studies; (b) transnational perspectives on American literatures and cultures, including trans-Atlantic, trans-Pacific, and/or Hemispheric concerns; (c) nationalisms, imperialisms, and/or colonialisms (settler and international); and (4) undergraduate teaching experience.

Preferred qualifications: significant scholarship in peer-reviewed venues (e.g., conferences, journals, edited collections, monographs); graduate-level teaching and advising; demonstrated potential for continued success as a scholar and teacher. The university expects faculty members to maintain an active program of scholarly research and publication, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, advise students, and contribute service to the department, college, university, and profession.
