Why did you choose to major in English?

I come from a family that is built on oral storytelling, and have grown up with a passion for stories in any form. I chose to be an English major because I want to continue to be engaged in storytelling—the creation, the study of, and the sharing of stories–-especially in a way that honors my family's history.

Are you pursuing any majors, minors, internships, or interests outside your English major?

I am currently pursuing a creative writing minor and a Certificate in Editing & Publishing. These avenues have helped me understand the craft and skill put into the stories and poems I engage with. I also volunteer with an immigrant rights group and have been opened up to the world beyond campus, and the importance of stories about underrepresented voices.

What is a favorite book you read for a UMN English class?

Before We Remember We Dream by Bryan Thao Worra.

What is your favorite thing about Pillsbury Hall?

Room 412. It's such a beautiful room, and I wish I had a class there.

What is something about the English department that most people wouldn’t know?

They almost always have some sort of event happening, whether with visiting authors, faculty, or students. [Check out English events.]
