Why did you choose to major in English?

The amazing faculty in the department and the opportunity to view the environment from a perspective rooted in human experiences. It's exciting to get to learn from faculty who are passionate about their work, instill curiosity into their students, and create a space for us to think critically about our texts and the world around us.

Are you pursuing any majors, minors, internships, or interests outside your English major?

My other major is technical writing in the environmental science track. These degrees allow me to have a dual perspective on technical topics, coming from an analytical framework as well as a broader scope rooted in lived experiences.

What has been your favorite part of your experience in the department?

The ability to make connections between my English coursework and my other major coursework, especially as it relates to community engagement and environmental justice perspectives. Having both a technical and humanistic lens on how to view writing and the environment has been pivotal in shaping my career interests.

What is a favorite book you read for a UMN English class?

Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer.

What is your favorite thing about Pillsbury Hall?

 The architecture.
