Are you pursuing any majors, minors, internships, or interests outside your English major?

I am also pursuing a history minor. I was given the opportunity to intern at the Museum of Russian Art the second semester of my sophomore year at the U [through the English department], which really got me interested in Russian history. I took a few classes on the subject, and I ended up loving history. I had almost completed the minor without ever declaring it. It is my dream to work in museums; learning about the history and context behind art, literature, and artifacts is one of my favorite things.

What has been your favorite part of your experience in the department?

The faculty and peers I have met. Every professor I've worked with at the U has been so passionate about their course and made me feel excited about it. The amazing people I have met and worked with in these courses have made my time in the English department that much better.

What is a favorite book you read for a UMN English class?

The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. I got to read this book twice for two different classes at the U, and I found something new about it both times. I love coming-of-age stories, and this one especially stuck with me because of its brutally honest and controversial protagonist.

If you studied abroad, what did you take away from the experience?

For my first year of college I had the opportunity to study abroad in Norway at the American College of Norway. It really forced me to become more independent than I had ever been. This independence led to confidence in myself, my work, and my abilities, which has become essential for me in my academic and professional career.
