The European Refugee Crisis with Christiane Taubira
Cowles Auditorium, Humphrey Center
Christiane Taubira served as France’s minister of justice for four years under President François Hollande. She stepped down over a growing rift with Hollande and Prime Minister Manuel Valls, in particular over proposed measures to strip French citizens involved in terrorist acts of their nationality. Her new book, Murmures à la jeunesse (Whispers to the Youth) addresses the events that led to her resignation.
Ms. Taubira will speak about the European refugee crisis and her commitment to civil rights, women’s rights, and the rights of disadvantaged youth.
The presentation will be in French, with English translation.
Free and open to the public.
This event is sponsored by the Department of French & Italian and the College of Liberal Arts, with additional support from the Cultural Service of the French Embassy in Chicago.
