Statement of Solidarity with the Asian American Community

FRIT wishes to express its solidarity with the Asian American community in the wake of the Atlanta attacks. Our colleagues in FRIT strongly condemn the surge of anti-Asian hatred in the wake of the COVID crisis, as well as the global surge of femicides and the terrifying rise of white supremacy. Racially motivated violence is not new to 2020, but during this past year, Asian-American communities have been subjected to a 150% increase in violent acts incited by specious political rhetoric. The department of French and Italian continues to research and teach in the fields that probe the histories and proliferations of such xenophobia, racism and sexism, while honoring the lived, particular experiences of minorities, immigrants and migrants living in the United States. We stand in solidarity with Asian communities in their grief and outrage.
