The Department of French and Italian is happy to announce the winners of our French Studies Undergraduate Award: Katelyn Gross (UMN-Morris), Allie Callahan (St. Thomas), and Sophie Migacz (Macalester).

The French Studies Undergraduate Award is a new award from the French and Italian Department at the University of Minnesota that seeks to deepen connections between the various French departments in the state of Minnesota, inform students that there is a local graduate program in French at the U of MN, and most of all to recognize talented undergraduates for the strong work they are doing in the field.

Each student was chosen to receive this award based on the recommendations of their French programs, with a focus on the students’ excellence in French Studies and the likeliness that they would continue their study of French in graduate school.

The award comes with a copy of a recent award winner of the Prix Goncourt book prize, assorted University of Minnesota gifts, and a fee-waiver to be used if awardees choose to apply to the French Studies graduate program at the University of Minnesota. *No obligations to apply or attend our program were included--just the gifts and recognition of the hard work each of these students have put into their study of French.

Look for our award again next spring, when we hope to have eight awardees!
