Research Interests:
After working 9 years in mining, I left the underground to pursue higher education. I am now a PhD candidate in French Studies, exploring the mining world from a new perspective. My dissertation focuses on the proliferation of the mining novel in nineteenth-century France, which flourished under Naturalism and climaxed with Germinal, written by Emile Zola, in 1884. I examine the naturalist novel as a space of extraction that allows us to expose the physio-social conditions of society. I have presented my work at national and international conferences, including the colloquium “Landscapes of Industry: Zola and the Social Realities of his Time” in Lille, France, in June 2018.
