Christopher Ice

Research Interests:

As a PhD candidate in the Department of French and Italian, I have been fortunate to be able to cultivate interests in many areas including postcolonial francophone studies, immigration studies, Italian and Mediterranean studies, and media and cultural studies. The focus of my dissertation project centers on contemporary French comedians of immigrant background in stand-up, television sitcoms and film comedies. I am particularly interested in exploring the subversive potential of comedy in critiquing common perceptions of immigrant communities and in imagining alternatives to societal status quos regarding ethnic minorities. I recently published an article in the journal Nouvelles études francophones on the Franco-Algerian humorist, Fellag.
