College of Liberal Arts Scholarships

College of Liberal Arts (CLA) scholarships are highly competitive. Scholarship decisions are based on a very careful, overall assessment of each admitted student's academic preparation and performance, as well as the additional information provided in the application. While the strongest consideration in the decision is given to academic merit and financial need, no single factor is the deciding component in the decision.

Future Freshmen Students

You are considered an entering freshman if you are still a high school student, or if you haven't enrolled in any college courses after graduating from high school.

How do I apply for scholarships?

In CLA, you're automatically considered for CLA collegiate scholarships by submitting an application for admission to the U of M. We don't have a separate application for scholarships! This helps make the process easier for you. Full consideration for academic scholarships is given to students who submit a complete application for freshman admission by either the first (November 1) or second (January 1) application deadlines. Students who apply after that date will be considered on a funds-available basis. For more information, click here

Future Transfer Students

Transfer applicants are those who apply to the College of Liberal Arts from outside the University of Minnesota with at least 26 semester credits (earned after graduation from high school).

How do I apply for scholarships?

Scholarships are awarded based on your admission application to CLA as well as our CLA Transfer Scholarship application. Students are reviewed for scholarships both through the admissions process and the CLA Transfer Scholarship application. CLA looks to offer multiple avenues to support future transfer student in being considered for collegiate scholarships. For more information, click here

We strongly encourage all future freshmen and transfer students to:
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) (code 003969) or a Dream Act Application, available at the Minnesota Office of Higher Education Dream Act website, for financial need consideration
